For health and wellness
Scientists now understand the critical role of vitamin D (beyond calcium absorption and the prevention of rickets) to recognize its importance for the support of cardiovascular health, digestive function and immune response.* As a result, healthcare professionals now realize that it is no longer enough to recommend sun exposure alone for adequate vitamin D intake. And, given that vitamin D deficiencies in the U.S. population are reaching epidemic proportions of more than 40 percent, according to data from the National Health and Nutrition Information Survey (NHANES), supplementing the diet with vitamin D through foods and supplements is critically important.
However, less is known about the absorption of vitamin D forms, so choosing the right vitamin D ingredient is essential. Studies now suggest that vitamin D3 is the preferable form and can significantly impact efficacy and bioactivity. One 2012 study comparing the two forms noted that participants who took the vitamin D3 had higher serum 25(OH) compared to those receiving the D2.1

In addition stability and potency are important factors in considering vitamin D ingredients. A 2013 study, published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine found that potency of many vitamin D supplement products varied widely and compounded supplements did not necessarily match the amounts listed on their label.2 This is likely due to agglomeration and improper mixing or blending with higher concentrations of vitamin D.
Bioactives American’s Aqua D3 is a water-soluble vitamin D3 ingredient with guaranteed stability and potency. It is stabilized and coated to provide consistent potency for optimal immune health and wellness.* Research comparing vitamin D in various delivery methods has identified that vitamin D in oil capsules provides optimal absorption as compared to those delivered in a powder form. Oil-based capsules have been shown to provide better absorption and bioactivity.
